If you could help me to get articles and newsletters on the African Star.
The African star collided with a petroleum tanker back in 1968.
I was 12 at that time.
I’ve responded in a separate post here:
Hello Bob Couttie:
I have been wanting to know what happened on the fatal night that the African Star collided with a petroleum tanker back in 1968 on the Mississippi River. My father was a shipmate on that ship en route to Australia, and I was about 12 years old at that time. About 20 men died that fatal night. It was foggy and my dad was on watch on deck. The ship collided with the tanker and my father Lucas Quevedo went below to wake-up his comrades.
He died 5 days later in a hospital in New Orleans. Can you please help me to find the National Maritime Union Newsletter that describe the incident that night. I had a copy but through the years it was lost. I want to have this for my two sons so they know how their grandfather was a hero!
Thank you so much!
Miriam L. Quevedo (his daughter)
